The Presbyterian Youth Ministry Collaboration of Atlanta (PYMCoA) is revamping the PYC! Traditionally, youth councils for presbyteries include several high school youth who are involved in their individual congregations and a few adult mentors through the presbytery who promote and implement events for youth throughout the presbytery and community.
The revived PYC will intentionally reflect the diversity of the presbytery by inviting youth from all four regions to serve two-year leadership terms. Together they will meet regularly, build Christian community through a shared covenant, and plan events and opportunities that bring youth from across the presbytery together in faith, fellowship, and service.
Many presbyteries across the PC(USA) continue to thrive with active PYCs, which have proven to be powerful leadership pipelines for the Church's future. Youth who participate in these councils often go on to serve not only in vocational ministry but also as dedicated leaders within their congregations. Through leadership formation, spiritual growth, and collaborative ministry, PYC participants develop the skills and confidence to serve the church in meaningful ways. These young leaders frequently become future elders, clerks of session, Sunday school teachers, liturgists, confirmation mentors, youth advisors, and lifelong engaged members of their congregations.
We plan to send youth council applications to each church by the end of the 2025-2026 school year for high schoolers who are interested in serving. We are excited to invite youth leaders from across our congregations into this collaborative work of planning and leading ministry together. If you already have a youth in mind, feel free to start sharing with them about this opportunity and how they would be a great fit.
Deadline: We need Youth Applications by July 1.
Thank you again for your partnership, prayers, and support as we work to build something meaningful for the youth of our presbytery. We are happy to answer any questions and would love to hear your ideas and recommendations.
