(Must be ordained ruling/teaching elder)
Terms of Service: Three-year term (elected), eligible for re-election for a total of two terms/six years
Meetings: Operations Commission Meetings are conducted quarterly via Zoom on a Monday at 2:30 p.m. Meeting frequency of Sub-Committees are outlined below.
Requirements: Ruling and Teaching Elders, other lay leaders whose skills, interests and experience can enhance the work of the committee.
The Operations Commission’s duties and responsibilities include:
Propose an annual budget to the Council and Presbytery for their action
Communicate with congregations and other parties as appropriate regarding financial support of the Presbytery and the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
Review regular reports of the Presbytery’s financial position and provide a summary report to the Presbytery at each stated meeting
Make decisions regarding the Presbytery’s investments
Maintain the Presbytery’s accounts at financial institutions of its choosing f) Obtain and maintain property and liability insurance coverage on behalf of the Presbytery and its activities, in accordance with G-3.0112
Provide for the required full annual financial review of all financial books and records, in accordance with G-3.0113
Provide for the management of the property and assets of the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta, Inc.
Approve and execute transactions of the sale, mortgage, or other encumbrance of property owned by the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta, Inc., on behalf of the Presbytery
Upon Presbytery approval, execute transactions for the purchase of property by the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta, Inc., or any subordinate entity
Act on behalf of the Presbytery to approve requests from congregations for the sale, mortgage, lease, or encumbrance of real property, or for the Presbytery to serve as guarantor for congregational loans, in accordance with G-4.0206
Consult with congregations regarding real estate transactions, financial and legal matters, and other related topics m) Concur with the Commission on Ministry to approve requests for congregations to relocate
The Operations Commission also serves as the Board of Directors of the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta, Inc. (“PGA”).
Each member of the Operations Commission serves as a member of a subcommittee or is available to take on special projects during the year. The subcommittees are:
Property – effectively manages all real estate, land and buildings owned by the Presbytery or that the Presbytery holds in trust.
Finance – provides oversight, support, guidance, and subject matter expertise to Presbytery staff who plan manage and execute daily activities in connection with the financial resources of the Presbytery.
Gratitude – assists member churches to be deeply engaged in the life of the Presbytery by encouraging them to commit their resources (e.g., time, talent, and treasure) to the work of the Presbytery, and to commit themselves to meaningful relationships within the Presbytery.
Operations Commission meetings are conducted electronically via Zoom. Commission members should plan to attend all the scheduled meetings, as most committee actions require a quorum.
Sub-Committee meetings are generally held quarterly via Zoom.
