Day 1: The Rev. Bruce Reyes-Chow

The Rev. Bruce Reyes-Chow to preach on “Day1”

Seventh Avenue Presbyterian Church, San Francisco

The Rev. Bruce Reyes-chow is the featured preacher for the third Sunday of Easter, May 4, on “Day1” with host Katie Givens Kime, the nationally broadcast ecumenical radio program also accessible online at Day1.org and by podcast.  Hear "Day1" in the Atlanta area on WSB 95.5 and 750 AM Sundays at 7:05 a.m.

“Who Are We Persecuting?” is drawn from Acts 9:1-20, the story of the conversion of Paul on the road to Damascus. He says, “I think there's a lesson in this Saul story: no matter where we are, no matter how much authority we have, no matter where we are in our professional life, our emotional life, or our relationships, we all have the room and the calling to grow.”

Rev. Bruce Reyes-Chow is a third Generation Filipino/Chinese American. His writing, teaching, and speaking have taken him to Australia, The Philippines, Japan, Taiwan, Canada, and across the United States as he addresses topics of faith, leadership, activism, culture, race, and technology. Author of six books, most recently, In Defense of Kindness: Why It Matters, How It Changes Our Lives, and How It Can Save the World (Chalice Press, 2021) and Everything Good about God is True: Choosing Faith (Broadleaf Books, 2024). He also has a broad online video and audio presence writing and creating podcasts at “The Amalgamation Newsletter and Podcast.”

Reyes-chow is the founding pastor of Mission Bay Community Church in San Francisco, and now worships at Seventh Avenue Presbyterian Church, where he served as Parish Associate.  He has been an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA) since 1995 and has pastored seven congregations in California. In 2008, he was elected Moderator of the Presbyterian Church USA, the youngest and first Asian American to hold the denomination's highest elected office.

The program includes interviews with Reyes-Chow conducted by Kime, who is also executive producer.

“Day1” has been broadcast every week for 80 years, formerly as “The Protestant Hour.” Featuring outstanding preachers from the mainline denominations, “Day1” is currently distributed to radio stations across America and overseas. The program is produced by the Alliance for Christian Media, based in Atlanta. For more information, check the program’s website, http://day1.org.
